Courses Offered
Morning Star College currently offers only Arts stream. It has one of the friendliest college environments in the city with a vibrant teacher-student relationship, spacious classrooms and seating. The college also boasts of a well equipped Library and Computer Lab. Extra-curricular activities, sports and games are an integral part of the learning process and students are encouraged to take part in these activities for all-round development. As such, the college is known for its gifted and talented students in the field of sports, fine arts and other productive extra-curricular activities.
The college gives due importance to the development of moral and ethical values of students. With problems of unemployment among educated youths becoming more alarming each passing day, the college has vocational courses on electrical, solar energy technology and computer basics for boosting self-reliance and employability. More vocational courses on baking, embroidery and knitting, handicraft, food processing, plumbing, painting, fishery and horticulture are also planned to be taken up.
Students of Morning Star College are encouraged to participate in National Cadet Corps and Environmental Programmes in and outside the Institution and to take up programmes of development.
Anthropology
The Department of Anthropology is one of the oldest departments in the college. Currently, the department has a well-equipped laboratory with four highly qualified teachers with Smt. Benuiona Wanrap as the incumbent Head of Department (HoD). Among the few colleges offering Anthropology as an Honour subject, the Department of Anthropology, Morning Star College is a pioneer in the discipline and has been instrumental in promoting Anthropology at the college level in Meghalaya. The department has been consistently producing toppers in the discipline, both at the Higher Secondary level and Under-Graduate level, since its inception.
Economics
The Department of Economics is one of the first departments to be introduced in the college. Currently, the department has four highly qualified teachers with Smt. Aitilang Nongspung as the incumbent HoD. Through the years, the department has been consistent in its performance both at the Higher Secondary level and Under-Graduate level, since its inception.
Education
The Department of Education currently has three highly qualified teachers with Smt. Iakmenlang Pyngrope as the incumbent HoD. Through the years, the department has been consistent in its performance both at the Higher Secondary level and Under-Graduate level, since its inception.
English
The Department of English is one of the first departments to be introduced in the college. Currently, the department has three highly qualified teachers with Smt. Dolcy Laloo as the incumbent HoD. Through the years, the department has been consistent in its performance both at the Higher Secondary level and Under-Graduate level, since its inception.

Khasi
The Department of Khasi is one of the first departments to be introduced in the college. Currently, the department has three highly qualified teachers with Smt. Glorious Diengdoh as the incumbent HoD. Through the years, the department has been consistent in its performance both at the Higher Secondary level and Under-Graduate level, since its inception.
Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy is among the first departments to be introduced in the college. Currently, the department has three highly qualified teachers with Smt. Mitali Paul as the incumbent HoD. Through the years, the department has been consistent in its performance both at the Higher Secondary level and Under-Graduate level, since its inception.
Political Science
The Department of Political Science is one of the first departments to be introduced in the college with maximum number of students. Currently, the department has four highly qualified teachers with Smt. Ribadapbiang Synrem as the incumbent HoD. Through the years, the department has been one of the most consistent in its performance both at the Higher Secondary level and Under-Graduate level.
Sociology
The Department of Sociology was introduced in the college in 1995. Currently, the department has three highly qualified teachers with Smt. Balapdianghun Kharbhih as the incumbent HoD. Through the years, the department has been one of the most consistent in its performance both at the Higher Secondary level and Under-Graduate level.
Environmental Science
Apart from Honours subject, the college also has Environmental Science as a compulsory subject.
